Cleaning your bathroom can be a difficult chore. In fact, most people dislike cleaning their bathrooms more than any other room in the house. The following is a step-by-step guide on how to effectively clean your whole bathroom.
Step 1: Remove products and personal items from the bathroom.
Many people remove items as they clean each area of the bathroom. However, you will save time if you remove all the items at the beginning of your cleaning spree.
Remove all products from your shower or bathtub. Pull all your used towels, rugs, and other linens and toss them outside the room. If you have items on the counter, remove them as well. Set any bathroom trash cans outside the room, too.
Step 2: Dust the room.
Use your duster to remove cobwebs from the corners of the room. Then use it to remove dust from light fixtures and vents. It’s okay if dust falls to the floor since you’ll be cleaning that shortly.
Step 3: Sweep (or vacuum) the room.
Once you’ve finished dusting, sweep or vacuum the room. Make sure to get any hair, dust, or debris off of your floor.
Step 4: Apply an all-purpose cleaner to your shower and/or bathtub.
Spray all-purpose cleaner to the surfaces of your bathtub and/or shower. If you have a lot of buildup in your shower, use an acid-based cleaner designed to remove tough stains. For showers with doors, make sure to add cleaner to the inside of the shower door and the shower track.
Let the cleaner soak while you finish cleaning other parts of your bathroom.
Step 5: Clean the other surfaces in your bathroom.
While the cleaner soaks, use your cleaner and sponge (or washcloth) to wipe down the other surfaces in your bathroom. Wipe down shelves, baseboards, blinds, windowsills, or towel racks.
Spray the cleaner on your sink, faucets, and bathroom countertops. Use a clean cloth to wipe these areas clean. Once these surfaces are clean, you can replace any items removed from this area. Gently wipe down any items as needed before replacing them.
Step 6: Use glass cleaner to clean your mirror.
Use glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the mirror above your bathroom sink. If you have a full-length mirror hanging in your bathroom, clean that as well.
Step 7: Mix your cleaning solution for the bathroom floor.
Fill a bucket with cleaner and warm water. Follow the product directions for the recommended water-to-cleaner ratio.
Step 8: Finish cleaning your bathtub and/or shower.
At this point, your cleaner should have had plenty of time to soak. Scrub any dirt and buildup from your shower, then rinse the dirt and soap down the drain. As you replace the items you removed, wipe them down to leave the shower area perfectly clean.
Step 9: Clean your toilet.
Use a toilet-bowl cleaner and a toilet brush to clean the inside of your toilet. Spray the outside surfaces of your toilet with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe away any dirt or grime. When finished scrubbing, flush the toilet to reveal a clean bowl.
Step 10: Mop the bathroom floor and replace items.
When you’ve finished cleaning everything else, use your cleaning solution and water mixture to mop your bathroom floor. Once the floor is completely dry, replace any items removed (such as your trash can, rugs, and linens).
